My first job was working for a small business owner, a Vietnam veteran who built fences, did landscaping, and painted houses in Mt. Shasta, California. My grandfather ran his own locksmithing and fencing businesses. My dad still works in the trades today here in the Austin area. I did not grow up around corporate boardrooms. I grew up around hardworking people who built things with their hands and ran their businesses on grit.
I spent 20 years in enterprise tech sales at companies like Glassdoor, Gong, and Udemy, helping large corporations like Indeed, Dell, and ServiceTitan use technology to work smarter. I was good at it. But somewhere along the way I got tired of helping billion-dollar companies get bigger and started thinking about the people who actually needed the help. The HVAC owner missing calls while he is in a crawl space in 100-degree Texas heat. The plumber losing a job to voicemail. The electrician who does great work but cannot find time to chase down reviews or follow up on estimates.
That is why I started Blackland Systems. I moved to Pflugerville in 2021 with my wife and three kids. My son is at Texas State & my other two go to Weiss High School. This is home now. And I would rather spend my time helping the people who make this community run than grinding out another quota for a company that does not know my name.
When I am not working, you will find me on the golf course, behind the smoker, or with a good glass of whiskey. Faith, family, and a handshake still mean something to me, and that is exactly how I do business.
